The material LSR

Liquid silicone (LSR - Liquid Silicone Rubber) is a material that almost everyone comes into contact with these days. LSR can be found in many products that make our lives easier and more comfortable, such as baby pacifiers, shower heads, TV remote controls, diving goggles as well as many functional textiles. Even more often, it is used in technical products, such as insulators, membranes, gaskets, technical textiles, various medical devices, or now in highly transparent products, such as lighting components.

LSR is used in such a wide variety of areas because it is the material of choice when it comes to high-quality products. This is because LSR materials offer high temperature resistance and stability of properties. The material has high flexibility and plasticity. Because of its biocompatibility with the human body, LSR is often used in sterile, medical environments.  

    The Processing

    For the production of LSR products, the injection molding process (LIM - Liquid Injection Moudling) is preferred, as it offers the highest degree of automation as well as the greatest freedom in product design. In addition, the molding cycle time for processing LSR in injection molding machines is very short. Dosing in injection molding machines takes place in a closed-cell space, which eliminates the possibility of contamination of the material.

    The injection molding process for LSR is very similar to that for thermoplastic polymers. The main difference is the feeding and mixing of the two component material at ambient temperature.
